Notes: For 1965-1987a, this race was known as the Mission Bay Marathon, for 1987b it was known as the San Diego Holiday Bowl Marathon. In 1988, the organizing groups for these two marathons merged to form the San Diego Marathon which was for 1988-1990, known as the San Diego International Marathon. In 1993, the venue was changed to Carlsbad from San Diego; the name was changed to the Carlsbad Marathon for the 2005 race. Race currently known as Tri-City Medical Center Carlsbad Marathon.
In 2018 according to the race rules women's winner Mary Akor was not eligible for prize money because she served a two-year doping ban for Clenbuterol.
