Note: 1976 was the inaugural year. The race distance for 1976-1979 was 20 km but the 1978 course was short, probably close to 18.5 km. The race distance in 1980 was 30 km. The women's race distance for 1976-1980 was 5 km. In 2006, the first women's finisher, Chihiro Fukunaga was not registered with the JAAF; the first JAAF registered woman was Chiemi Koana (JPN) who finished in 2:54:54.  This race was known as the Kawaguchiko Marathon thru 2011 and the venue changed its name from Kawaguchi to Fujikawaguchi.
