Notes: 1971 was the inaugural year. The 1971-1988 races were known as the Juneau
Marathon with each race starting at the Mendenhall Glacier but several different
courses were used over the years. These races were sponsored by the Juneau
Parks & Recreation Department. The race course was first certified in
1992. The 1992 race was named in honor of Frank Maier, a local marathon
enthusiast, who died in a fishing accident in 1990.
