Notes: The distance for the inaugural race in 1952 was 35 km. The course is between Beppu and Oita, starting and finishing in Beppu for all races 1983 and earlier. For the 1984 and subsequent races, the start and finish have been in Oita with the turnaround point in Beppu. This change was undertaken to take advantage of prevailing tail winds on the return leg. The race was known as the Beppu Mainichi Marathon thru 1974.  Ahmed-Ibrahim Baday (MAR) finished first in 2011 at 2:10:14 but was disqualified in 2015 on the basis of his biological passport.
