Notes: 1983 was the inaugural year. Distances are given in kilometers. The races for 1983-1993 were held at Washington HS in Phoenix AZ; the 1994 race was held at Cortez HS in Phoenix AZ; the 1995 race was held at Phoenix Christian HS in Phoenix AZ; the 1996-2002 races were held at the Arizona Boys Ranch track in Queen Creek AZ; the 2003-2010 races were held on a road circuit at Nardini Manor in Litchfield Park AZ/USA; the 2011-date races have been held at Camelback Ranch in Phoenix on a certified 1689.5 meter mostly dirt loop.

For most years, 72 hour and 48 hour races were also held with the 24 hour runners being able to run their 24 hours on any of the three (or two) available days and the 48 hour runners could start on either of the first two days. In the 1998 race, women's winner Ehret actually started on 29 Dec 1998; in 2011, the men's winner Hammer started on 30 Dec 2011; in 2013, the men's winner Holmes started on 28 Dec 2013. The men's winner in 1998, James Bonnett was 12 years old.  In the 48 hour race, the 2011 men's winner, Jackson, started on 29 Dec 2011.
